World Vision in political stunt
World Vision, a Non Government Organisation best known
for its aid programs to children in Third World countries, has
surprised its donors by announcing in May 2004 an aid program aimed at
Aborigines living in Armadale, Western Australia.
Around 25,000 children die every day in the Third
World from malnutrition and preventable disease. Aborigines on the other hand have access to the whole
rage of Australian public services, including
welfare, education, health, housing, legal aid, paid study
and special grants.
Why does World Vision divert its funds (provided by
governments as well as private donors) away from the
desperate plight of children in the Third World to
engage
in what is nothing more than a political stunt?
World Vision's website reveals its long-time
support of the policy of ethnic separatism , the system that lies at the heart of the enormous
problems faced by Australia's Aborigines. Perhaps donors
should divert their funds to other NGO's that are true to
their charter.
