On 24 January 2010 a group of 50 academics and PhD students put their
names to an open letter calling on Notre Dame University in Fremantle Western
Australia to stop Lord Christopher Monckton from giving a lecture scheduled to
be held at the university later in the week.
Lord
Monckton, renowned climate change sceptic, was due to give a speech
lambasting climate change alarmists and the rent-seekers living off lavish
taxpayer-funded grants to promote the perceived dangers of global warming.
They
were joined later by University of Western Australia vice-chancellor Alan Robson
in a statement that sought to distance his university from another lecture Lord
Monckton is due to give there. Robson's description of Lord Monckton as
"climate change denier" clearly has reference to "Holocaust
denier".
It
is ironic that UWA's motto is "Seek Wisdom". How can students seek
wisdom when they are banned from listening to ideas outside of the prevailing
orthodoxy?
It
would be interesting to know how many of the gang of 50, receive, or hope to
receive, taxpayer-funded grants to produce reports aimed at alarming the public
and prompting political action (to ante up even more grants to fund their
"research").
For
example, one of the names on the list is David Hodgkinson of the
Hodgkinson Group. The group's website
describes their activities as - wait for it -"Aviation and climate change
advisors". Hodgkinson has produced numerous papers and books on the subject
of climate change, presumably ultimately at taxpayer expense. Another name on
the list, Professor Alex Coram is also a principal of the Hodgkinson Group.
Interesting.
As
well as the income derived from the group's advisory role, David Hodgkinson leads an international
project team which is working on a draft convention for persons displaced by
climate change. See the website Climate
Change Displaced Persons . The team is planning on how to cope with
200 million persons soon to be displaced by the effects of global warming.
Sounds like a good reason to ban a sceptic who threatens to derail this gravy
train.
Long
may the names of these bigoted academics live in infamy.
